Early AI initiatives in legal focused on surface-level wins: summarise this clause, extract that date, flag risky terms. They’re neat. They save time. But they’re not what slows down legal work and that's primarily because legal teams aren’t effectively drowning in tasks, they’re drowning in decisions.

AI that focuses on mechanically and blindly 'doing the work' often misses the bigger picture: legal outputs are only useful if they reflect the context, intent, and strategy behind them. Without that, even a theoretically 'correct' answer can be the wrong move.

That’s how we end up with agents that mark everything as high-risk, flag boilerplate as deal blockers, or try to negotiate on non-negotiables. They’re doing what they were told, but not what was meant.

But when it’s aligned – really aligned – the benefit goes far beyond simply saving time. It lifts entire workflows out of inboxes and off legal’s plate.
